Journey back to 1956. Imagine the clang of metal and the hiss of steam at the LKM factory in Babelsberg. This is where BR 99 791 first came to life. This isn’t just any locomotive. It’s a Saxon VII K Neubaulok, a powerful machine designed for narrow-gauge railways. BR 99 791 embarked on its maiden voyage on January 24, 1957, traveling from Hainsberg to Malter. It officially entered service under the Deutsche Reichsbahn, designated as “99 791”. The locomotive’s story continued with a renumbering to “99 1791-5” in 1970. BR 99 791 even had a stint in Putbus on the island of Rügen, shuttling between Putbus and Göhren in 1991. Another renumbering followed in 1992, becoming “099 755-1” under Deutsche Bahn AG. BR 99 791 eventually found a home with the Traditionsbahn Radebeul e. V. in 2000. Now, BR 99 791 stands as a proud Denkmal, a monument to its impressive past, at Radebeul Ost station. It serves as a reminder of the era of steam and the ingenuity of German engineering.
