While it originally served students starting in 1973, shifting demographics led to its closure and eventual reopening. But the spirit of the Volunteers, Bowie High School’s mascot, lives on. Heavy metal legends Darrell Lance Abbott and Vincent Paul Abbott, better known to fans as Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul of Pantera, once roamed these halls.
