“A boulevard split in two? How peculiar!” you might think to yourself as we stand here on Boulevard de Polangis. Boulevard de Polangis is intriguing. The boulevard is oddly divided between two communes, Joinville-le-Pont and Champigny-sur-Marne. You see, back in 1812, Napoleon’s cartographers were in a rush. They drew a straight line through the land, splitting the area into two. This division ignored the natural landscape but forever marked Boulevard de Polangis. The larger part became part of Joinville-le-Pont, while the smaller section went to Champigny-sur-Marne. Despite attempts to reunite the boulevard under Joinville-le-Pont, it remains a testament to hasty decisions and the quirks of history.
