Right here on Boulevard de Dixmude, we stand on a street with a story etched in its very name. Boulevard de Dixmude is located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. This boulevard stretches 210 meters. It spans from 11, avenue de la Porte-de-Villiers to avenue de Salonique.
Boulevard de Dixmude got its name in 1931. Before that, it was part of the route de la Révolte. This road was also known as chemin de grande communication no 16. Part of it used to be in Neuilly-sur-Seine. It was annexed to Paris by decree.
The name Boulevard de Dixmude honors a specific moment in history. It commemorates the Belgian city of Dixmude. Dixmude is on the Yser River. During World War I, the brigade of naval fusiliers. They were under Admiral Ronarc’h. They resisted the German invasion of 1914. This brave resistance gave the boulevard its name.
Interestingly, the Rosengart factories once stood here. They were located at numbers 2 to 36 on Boulevard de Dixmude. Rosengart was an automobile manufacturer. But the brand disappeared in 1955. Now only the name Boulevard de Dixmude remains.
