Isn’t it interesting how a single boulevard can bisect an entire neighborhood? That’s exactly what Boulevard Bompard does in Marseille. It splits the district in two.

Boulevard Bompard isn’t just a road. It’s a transversal artery. It cuts through the heart of Bompard. This boulevard is more than just a way to get from one place to another. It defines the character of this sought-after neighborhood.

Bompard itself is a unique place. It begins below Notre-Dame de la Garde. It stretches all the way to the Corniche President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, along the sea. Gaston Deferre built the Corniche in 1954. This transformed Marseille’s seaside. It created a popular promenade.

Many houses in Bompard were built in the 1950s. They are mostly single-family homes. Recent constructions are more modest. The area is particularly quiet. Bompard is now highly sought after by families. This explains the number of schools here.

The neighborhood has a stable population. In 2012, Bompard had 4,220 residents. This is only slightly up from 4,153 in 2006. The area covers 58.3 hectares. That’s just over half a square kilometer.

Several important streets border Bompard. Avenue des Roches and Chemin du Roucas-Blanc define the eastern edge. Boulevard Marius Thomas and Rue d’Endoume mark the northern boundary. Chemin du Vallon de l’Oriol runs along the southeast. The Corniche John Fitzgerald Kennedy follows the western coastline. Rue du Bois Sacré also forms part of the eastern limit. Rue du Dr. Frédéric Granier is on the northwest side.

Bompard offers a superb coastline. The Anse de l’Oriol is a notable feature. You can easily reach Boulevard Bompard by bus. Lines 55, 61, 73, 80, 83, 84, and 583 all stop nearby. The closest bus stop is simply named “Bompard”.

While here in Bompard, consider visiting Château Berger. Originally named Villa Castellamare, it was built in the late 19th century. Baron Edmond-Marie Houitte de la Chesnaye, inspired by the Château de Chambord, constructed it. The Chateau boasts authentic Aubusson tapestries from the 17th century. The baron had the motto of Anne de Bretagne inscribed on the façade: “plutôt mourir que s’avilir” (“rather die than be debased”). Charles Berger, founder of Sirops Berger, bought the villa in 1907. Today, Château Berger houses a thalassotherapy center and spa.

Also nearby is Villa Gaby. This villa is linked to the famous Gaby Deslys. You could also visit the Église Vallon de l’Oriol, a local church.

As you stroll along Boulevard Bompard, remember its role. It’s a quiet yet central part of Marseille. It offers a blend of residential charm. It has the allure of the nearby sea. It’s a place where families thrive. It’s a testament to Marseille’s diverse neighborhoods. It’s more than just a street. It’s the heart of Bompard.
