Beneath the Marseilles sun, Boulevard Boisson stretches out before us. It’s a vibrant artery in the city’s 4th arrondissement. Boulevard Boisson connects Boulevard de la Blancarde to Boulevard Chave, running parallel to the Marseille-Saint-Charles à Vintimille railway line. This bustling boulevard holds a fascinating story. It’s named after Joseph Eugène Boisson. In 1842, he purchased property here with a vision. He wanted to create a thoroughfare that would become the boulevard we see today. Initially, in 1848, Boulevard Boisson extended from Chemin Vicinal n°6 de Saint-Julien, now Boulevard de la Blancarde, to Impasse des Bombinettes. Later, it reached Traverse de Pierres-de-Moulins. As you stroll along Boulevard Boisson, take note of the notable landmarks. At number 86, you’ll find the Paroisse Saint-Calixte. Number 90 houses the Gymnase Vallier. Further down, at number 144, stands the Villa Magali. This villa was once home to Lazarine Nègre, known as Lazarine de Manosque. Boulevard Boisson isn’t just a street. It’s a testament to the vision of Joseph Eugène Boisson. He transformed this area of Marseille. His legacy lives on in the vibrant boulevard that bears his name.
