Right here on Boulevard Barbier, we find ourselves amidst a blend of the everyday and the extraordinary. Boulevard Barbier may seem like just another street. But it holds a unique place in the urban landscape of Marseille.

Let’s talk about a man named Mehdi Bouzghaïa. He is not directly related to Boulevard Barbier itself. However, his story reflects the spirit of Marseille. It is about taking chances and building something new.

Mehdi arrived in Marseille from Algeria in 2001. He faced the usual challenges of settling into a new country. He worked various jobs as a hairdresser to gain experience. In 2009, he opened his first salon, MLA Coiffure. But by 2013, it was struggling.

Then, in 2015, Mehdi took a big risk. He invested his father’s inheritance to open Le Barbier de Marseille. It was one of the first barber shops in Marseille. It was in the up-and-coming Friche Belle de Mai area. At the time, beards were not yet a fashion trend.

Mehdi decorated his salon with vintage items from his travels. This gave it a retro vibe. In 2016 and 2017, his salon was voted the best beauty spot in France.

People loved Mehdi’s originality. Word spread. His salon attracted a diverse clientele. This included celebrities like Olympique de Marseille players and TV presenters.

In 2018, he was selected to join the French team at the World Cup in Russia. That same year, he was named the best barber in France.

In 2019, Mehdi received global recognition in New York. He also moved Le Barbier de Marseille to a prime location on Rue de la République. He launched a line of affordable hair and beard services. It was called ‘L’Essentiel par le Barbier de Marseille’. He created his own line of hair and beard products. This gave rise to the Le Barbier de Marseille cosmetic brand.

In 2024, he appeared on the TV show ‘Qui veut être mon associé’ on M6. Mehdi’s story shows the entrepreneurial spirit. It is a spirit that thrives in neighborhoods around places like Boulevard Barbier.

So, while Boulevard Barbier may not be directly linked to Mehdi’s success. It shares the same vibrant and evolving atmosphere. The boulevard has its own story to tell. It is a story of everyday life meeting ambition and innovation. It is a story that continues to unfold with each passing day.
