From the outside, Borkonyha may appear informal, like a bistro. But don’t be deceived. The food is outstanding. It is the result of a decade-long dream. Tamás Horváth and Zoltán Kalocsai are the owners. Their concept was a family-friendly restaurant, in French-style bistro. They wanted to offer the best of Hungarian cuisine.
Ákos Sárközi joined as chef when Borkonyha opened. He brought experience from the two-Michelin-star Vila Joya in Portugal. In 2014, Borkonyha Winekitchen won its own Michelin star. It has retained it ever since.
Inside Borkonyha, the atmosphere is relaxed and convivial. Appearances are deceptive. Fresh ingredients are of utmost importance. While inspired by Transylvanian cuisine, Chef Sárközi also uses ingredients from Spain, France, and Italy.
