Ever wondered what it feels like to ride a giant steel boomerang? Here at Six Flags Mexico, the ride formerly known as Boomerang offers that very experience. This isn’t just any roller coaster. Boomerang has a fascinating history.
Originally, this ride wasn’t even here. It started its journey at Rafaela Padilla in Puebla. That was back in 1984. For two years, riders enjoyed the thrills before it was moved.
In 1988, Boomerang found its new home here at Reino Aventura. The ride kept its original name for a few years. Then in 1992, things changed. It was rethemed and renamed Escorpión. Imagine riding a scorpion-themed coaster.
That lasted until 1999. Six Flags acquired Reino Aventura and turned it into Six Flags Mexico. In 2000, Escorpión went back to being Boomerang. It seems everything comes full circle eventually.
Boomerang is the first of its kind. It’s the original Vekoma Boomerang model. More than fifty identical coasters have been made since. This one started it all.
How does it work? The ride starts with a backward pull. A catch car drags the train up a 116.5-foot lift hill. At the top, you’re released.
The train speeds through the station. Then it hits a cobra roll. Imagine the rush as you exit that cobra roll. Next up is a vertical loop. After that, another chain lift hill awaits.
Once you reach the peak again, the train reverses. It plunges backward through the inversions. You relive the entire track in reverse. Finally, you return to the station. The whole cycle lasts about a minute and forty-eight seconds.
Boomerang has a single train. It has seven cars. Each car holds four riders. That’s 28 people per train. This ensures a decent capacity of 760 riders per hour.
Thrill-seekers should note the height restriction. You need to be at least 48 inches tall to ride Boomerang. Also, prepare for some serious G-force. You will experience up to 5.2 Gs on this ride.
Interestingly, in 2024 there was speculation about its removal. But Six Flags Mexico had other plans. Instead of retiring it, they decided to give it a new theme.
So, while it was once known as Boomerang, it has been re-themed to Batgirl for the 2025 season.
