How did Boisemont transform from a village of farmers to a protected area? Boisemont is a village with a unique story. It shows resilience and a commitment to preserving its heritage.

Until the 19th century, Boisemont was mainly agricultural. Farmers, tile makers and pearl button makers lived here. Others were quarrymen or hoop makers. Life changed in 1911. A housing development marked the beginning of population growth.

Later, in 1968, Cergy-Pontoise was created. Boisemont became part of this new town. However, Boisemont chose to leave in 1984. It wanted to protect its rural character.

In 2000, the commune acquired the Ch\u00e2teau de Boisemont. It also restored the 2-hectare park. This shows the commitment to preserving the village’s history. Simultaneously, Boisemont was recognized. It became a Zone for the Protection of Urban and Landscape Architectural Heritage. This ensured its unique character would be preserved.

Boisemont joined the Cergy-Pontoise conurbation. This happened at the end of 2004. Boisemont secured its identity.

The name Boisemont has medieval roots. It combines “bois” meaning wood. “Mont” means height or hill. So, Boisemont literally means wooded hill. This reflects the area’s geography. Boisemont is located on the heights of Hautil. It is in a wooded environment.

Boisemont has a rich history. Discoveries of cut flint attest to prehistoric occupation. A lord of Boisemont is mentioned in a charter dating back to 1124-1134. Eude de Lieux gave all his goods to the Saint-Martin abbey of Pontoise.

Until the Revolution, Boisemont was part of the province of Île-de-France. It depended on Paris. Ecclesiastically, it was attached to the diocese of Rouen.

Boisemont has evolved significantly over time. It has transitioned from an agricultural village. It became part of a new town. It then asserted its independence. Today, Boisemont stands as a testament to preserving its heritage.
