A testament to the town’s ambition even with a population of only 35000. Its inauguration was quite the event a match between FC Schalke 04 and Lausanne-Sports under a torrential downpour. Schalke emerged victorious 4-1 a memorable start for the stadium.

But the Bodenseestadion’s story extends beyond football. For years it hosted the popular Rock am See music festival attracting 25000 fans each year. Imagine the energy the electric atmosphere. The stadium’s versatility is remarkable. It even hosted a Dieter Thomas Kuhn concert in 2005 a unique blend of rock and roll and German Schlager music.

However the Bodenseestadion is showing its age. The stadium needs significant renovations. It currently lacks floodlights adequate seating and even proper changing rooms. The main grandstand’s leaky roof is covered in moss. The concrete of the stands is crumbling. Parts of the seating are closed for safety reasons. The situation is dire. The stadium urgently needs an overhaul to continue hosting events and meet safety standards.

Despite its current condition the Bodenseestadion continues to serve the community. Since 2021 the Konstanz Pirates American football team calls it home. Recently the Campus Festival Konstanz moved to the Bodenseestadion.

The future of the Bodenseestadion is uncertain. Plans for renovations exist but remain unrealized. Yet the spirit of this stadium remains strong. It’s a reminder of Konstanz’s past a symbol of its present and a hope for its future. Let’s hope the Bodenseestadion will continue to provide unforgettable experiences for generations to come.
