In 1886 a woman in critical condition found healing in Chicago. This unexpected recovery sparked a movement. This is the story of the Blessed Trinity Temple of Divine Science. It all began with three sisters. Alethea Brooks Small Fannie Brooks James and Nona Lovell Brooks. They sought spiritual understanding. Their journey led them to Emma Curtis Hopkins a teacher of spiritual mysticism.
Three weeks of study transformed their lives. A friend’s remarkable healing ignited a passion for spiritual growth. Informal classes followed. The sisters along with others found profound healing. They also experienced a significant shift in their financial circumstances. Their entire lives transformed.
However the sisters felt a need for a deeper understanding. They questioned some aspects of the teachings they received. They believed that the visible universe was not an illusion. Instead it was God’s creative expression. They emphasized God’s action in their lives. They believed that focusing on God’s presence protected them from negativity.
They weren’t aiming to create a movement at first. Their study focused on understanding Divine Science. They systematized the teaching. All creation expresses God they concluded. This creation is good reflecting its Creator. Around the same time Malinda E. Cramer in San Francisco independently developed similar teachings. She had been healed through her own understanding of God’s presence. Her work aligned with the sisters’.
In 1887 Cramer incorporated her college. She called it the Home College of Divine Science. This was a remarkable coincidence. The sisters in Colorado and Cramer in California unknowingly shared the same spiritual insights. Upon learning about each other they combined their efforts. They adopted the name Divine Science for their teachings. The cooperation between the two groups resulted in significant growth.
The Divine Science College in Denver opened in 1898. It trained teachers organized churches developed practitioners and ordained ministers. The work grew steadily. The college moved to larger spaces multiple times. It eventually built a beautiful church and college. The first services in the new building were on June 25 1922. The dedication followed on October 15 1922.
The Blessed Trinity Temple of Divine Science continues to grow. Its teachings remain strong. Divine Science embraces scientific artistic and religious advances. It proclaims the right of individuals to health wealth happiness and power. These blessings are attainable through seeking God’s kingdom first. The legacy of the three sisters and Malinda E. Cramer lives on. The Blessed Trinity Temple stands as a testament to their unwavering faith and spiritual quest. It’s a place where spiritual seekers find healing transformation and a deeper connection to God.
