Envision a beacon atop the Lößnitzberge vineyards. It is the Bismarckturm Radebeul. This tower stands as a testament to Prince Otto von Bismarck. He lived from 1815 to 1898.

The Bismarckturm Radebeul is not alone. It is one of about 145 Bismarck towers still standing in Germany. These towers honor the former Prince. Wilhelm Kreis designed this individual tower. Master builder Alfred Grosse built it. The inauguration took place on September 2, 1907.

Rising 18 meters high, the Bismarckturm Radebeul offers stunning views. A modern staircase allows visitors to climb it. The tower sits on the crest of the Oberlößnitz vineyards. It is near the Spitzhaus. The Hoflößnitz lies below. This entire vineyard landscape is a work of art.

Approaching the Bismarckturm Radebeul, you will see a three-tiered terrace. A square base supports the tower. The base is four meters high. It has an edge length of 8.30 meters. Above this rises a round column. It reaches a total height of 18 meters.

The Bismarckturm Radebeul’s design includes a cornice in the upper third. Above this sits a dome-shaped bowl. Ten pillars support it. The tower’s concrete structure is clad in local syenite. This stone comes from the Lößnitz area.

Inside, the Bismarckturm Radebeul is hollow. It has eight niches. It is open at the top. The space was intended to store fuel. This fuel would be for planned Bismarck celebrations. A staircase to a fire bowl on the top was planned. It was never built due to cost.

A steel door on the mountain side provides entry. Above this door, an inscription reads “WIR DEUTSCHE / FÜRCHTEN GOTT SONST / NICHTS IN DER WELT”. Above this, a triangular gable features a Bismarck coat of arms.

The Deutsch-Soziale Reformverein initiated the tower’s construction. They established a committee in 1902. Karl May, a friend of the architect Wilhelm Kreis, donated to the project. He gave 100 Goldmark. Construction began on April 30, 1907.

After World War II, references to Bismarck were removed. In 1961, it was renamed Turm der Jugend. The original name was restored in 1993.

In 2019, a new staircase with 83 steps was inaugurated. This made the Bismarckturm Radebeul accessible as a viewing tower. The construction was funded by 300,000 euros in donations. Since 2020, the tower has been open to visitors during the summer.

The Bismarckturm Radebeul stands as a symbol. It represents history, architecture, and community spirit. Its panoramic views and unique design make it a destination. It continues to draw visitors from near and far. The Bismarckturm Radebeul is a special landmark.
