The 14th century saw Bietigheim become part of the Counts of Württemberg. In 1364 it was granted city status. A significant moment. The town thrived through the 15th and 16th centuries. Viticulture and trade fueled its growth. Then came the devastation of the Thirty Years War from 1634 to 1650. Hard times struck Bietigheim as it did many towns.
The 19th century brought the arrival of the railroad. This transformed Bietigheim. Industrialization spurred growth. By the end of the century the population swelled to 3800. Then came the 20th century. Metterzimmern joined Bietigheim in 1930. Untermberg became part of Bissingen in 1953. In 1967 Bietigheim became a large county town. The final piece of the puzzle fell into place in 1975. The merger of Bietigheim and Bissingen created the present town of Bietigheim-Bissingen. A new chapter had begun.
