Biblioteca Josep Maria Llompart

In 2009, a new chapter began for Palma. The Biblioteca Josep Maria Llompart opened its doors. It resides within the S’Escorxador, a former slaughterhouse. This building showcases early 20th-century Modernist (industrial) architecture. It was designed by architect Gaspar Bennàzar. The Biblioteca Josep Maria Llompart isn’t just any library. It boasts a specialized collection for language learning. It also features a “fácil” reading center for easy reading. A large children’s and young adult’s section also awaits younger visitors. This 450 square meter library offers 84 adult reading points. These are divided into two rooms. There’s a computer area with 10 internet-connected computers. One computer is adapted for people with disabilities. A newspaper reading space for 8 people is available. The children’s area provides 12 reading points. The Biblioteca Josep Maria Llompart is a hub of activity. It hosts events for both children and adults. These include storytelling sessions, workshops, exhibitions, presentations, and reading clubs. The library actively collaborates with S’Escorxador. It is involved in activities in the surrounding neighborhood. In 2023 alone, the library recorded impressive numbers. It had 17,807 registered users and 60,660 visitors. The library loaned out 16,802 items. Its catalog contains 26,552 items. The Biblioteca Josep Maria Llompart is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm. On Saturdays, it’s open from 9 am to 1 pm. It closes on Saturdays during July and August.
