Nestled amidst the Biai Roman Catholic Cemetery stands the Biai temetőkápolna. It’s a small, unassuming chapel, yet it holds a powerful story. Sörös Mária, a woman of significant local standing, commissioned the Biai temetőkápolna in 1915. She envisioned a place of solace and remembrance within the cemetery grounds. The chapel’s design reflects a simple elegance. Its single nave and straight sanctuary, topped with a hipped gable roof and a small bell tower, create a sense of peaceful contemplation. Sörös Mária herself rests within the Biai temetőkápolna, a testament to her connection to this sacred space. A floor plaque marks the resting place of Sörös Borbála, who died in 1922 at the age of 83. The Biai temetőkápolna endured hardship during World War II, suffering significant damage and losing its original furnishings. Yet, like the city of Budapest itself, it rose from the ruins. Restoration efforts in 1946 brought the chapel back to life, and it was re-consecrated by Bishop Shvoy Lajos. Further renovations in 2000 addressed the interior plastering, improved insulation, and repaired the roof and double-leaf entrance doors. Today, the chapel’s simple furnishings include an altar and station images from the former parish church.
