Established in 1845 as a hospital, Bezmiâlem Vakıf Üniversitesi has a captivating history. The institution we see today began as the Gureba-i Müslimin, the Ottoman Empire’s first modern hospital. Imagine, in the heart of old Istanbul, the hospital was founded by Bezmiâlem Mother Sultana. This remarkable woman, the second wife of Sultan Mahmut II, envisioned a place where even the poorest Muslims could receive care. Fast forward to 2010, and the hospital transformed into Bezmiâlem Vakıf Üniversitesi. This thematic research university focuses on health and life sciences. Bezmiâlem Vakıf Üniversitesi is unique. It is a non-profit foundation university dedicated to education, research, and healthcare. The university boasts two main hospitals and three outpatient clinics across Istanbul.
