Founded in 1996 Bethel Ethiopian Church initially gathered in a hotel. Seven to ten people met weekly for fellowship at the University Plaza Hotel. This small group represented a larger Ethiopian community seeking religious freedom. Many had fled Ethiopia due to political and religious persecution. They found refuge in camps in neighboring countries. Eventually they immigrated to the United States. Bethel Ethiopian Church provided spiritual support.
The church quickly outgrew its humble beginnings. A larger space was needed. God provided. In April 1996 Bethel moved to the 15th Avenue Bible Church. This offered a more suitable atmosphere. The transition was a significant step. It marked the church’s growth and its commitment to serving the community. The Slavic Mission Church generously offered a fellowship hall.
Continued growth necessitated another move. In August 2001 Bethel Ethiopian Church relocated to Green Lake Presbyterian Church. This provided even more space for the expanding congregation and its various ministries. It was an answer to prayer. Their mission extended beyond their initial gatherings. It encompassed a growing community’s spiritual needs.
Green Lake Presbyterian Church later underwent renovations. Bethel Ethiopian Church temporarily moved again. In September 2006 they shared space with Broadview Community United Church of Christ. This arrangement continued until Bethel found its current permanent location at 2441 NE 125th Street Seattle WA 98125. This address marks the culmination of a remarkable journey for Bethel Ethiopian Church. It’s a testament to perseverance faith and the unwavering support of the community. The church continues its vital work. Bethel Ethiopian Church helps countless Ethiopian immigrants find spiritual guidance and a sense of belonging in a new land. It stands as a beacon of hope and resilience. A testament to faith’s enduring power to transform lives.
