Bethany Christian Centre’s story began with a prophecy. In July 1987, Dr. Anthony Phua acted on his faith. He planted a prophetic church.
Bethany Christian Centre started in a warehouse. This warehouse sat above a Mobil petrol kiosk in Hougang. It began with only a few people. The church then moved. It went from the petrol station to a rented nursery. After that, it moved to an auditorium in a commercial school. Finally, it purchased property at 167 Yio Chu Kang Road in September 1989. After renovations, 167 was dedicated in June 1992.
The church grew. Bethany Christian Centre continued to worship there for over two decades. Over time, the building started to show its age. In 2018, church members and leaders decided to rebuild. The pandemic forced them to pause the project.
After three years of waiting and praying, the church moved forward. It decided to rebuild despite the pandemic’s challenges and rising costs. After more than two years of rebuilding, Bethany Christian Centre reopened. It welcomed everyone back on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. Praise be to God.
Bethany Christian Centre has four primary goals. It aims to become a Spirit Anointed Church. It wants to be a Healthy Growing Church. It strives to become an Equipping Church. Finally, it desires to be a Missional Church.
The mission of Bethany Christian Centre is clear. It seeks to be a Spirit-anointed church. The church transforms lives to reach, win, and disciple people. It guides them to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
Bethany Christian Centre is an Assemblies of God church. It follows 16 Fundamental Truths. These truths shape the church’s core beliefs. The Scriptures Inspired is one of them. Salvation of Man is another. Baptism in the Holy Spirit guides them. The Church and Its Mission defines them. The Millennial Reign of Christ inspires them.
Care groups meet on alternate weeks. These groups gather in Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Fernvale, Tampines, Punggol and Woodleigh. They meet on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Royal Rangers meets on Sundays. It is a mentoring programme for kids aged 5-12. The programme nurtures children holistically. They grow physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.
Every Sunday morning, the English service unites the family in Christ. They praise and worship God together. They listen to the Word of God. The message teaches and reminds them of God’s Words. It guides them to live a victorious and purposeful life.
After the service, everyone stays for fellowship. They connect with one another. They share stories. They build meaningful relationships. Bethany Christian Centre is more than just a building. It is a thriving community.
