“Beautiful view” or “good to see” is what Belvedere means. That’s how the neighborhood got its name. Belvedere in Montevideo offers a panoramic vista from the Cuchilla Grande. Francisco Piria founded Belvedere in 1892. He had his summer residence here. Belvedere was originally part of Nuevo París. Nuevo París was established in 1869. Avenida Carlos María Ramírez is Belvedere’s most important street. The area known as Paso Molino extends into Belvedere. It is a popular shopping area.
