It’s a neighborhood named after a man who almost discovered the source of the Mississippi River. Almost. Giacomo Costantino Beltrami was an Italian explorer in the 1800s. He traveled extensively in Europe and America, eventually making his way to the Midwest. He claimed to have found the source of the Mississippi in 1823. History, however, later proved him wrong. But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t an interesting man. Beltrami has become a local legend. You’re standing in the Beltrami neighborhood in Minneapolis. It’s a small but vibrant community known for its mix of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Beltrami is a diverse neighborhood with a long history. Today, the Beltrami neighborhood is a thriving community, a testament to the legacy of the explorer who once wandered its streets and sought the source of the mighty Mississippi. And that’s why the park in the middle of it is called Beltrami Park.
