Ever wondered how Beji Timur got its name? Beji Timur is a vibrant urban community in Depok. It is part of the Beji district in West Java. Let’s explore some of the stories of Beji Timur.

Beji Timur is more than just a name. It is a place with a growing population. In mid-2022, the estimated population was around 11099 people. This number is significant for such a compact area of just 0.71 square kilometers. Beji Timur is a bustling hub within the Jakarta metropolitan area.

Beji Timur is part of the larger Beji District. Beji covers an area of 14.56 square kilometers. The Beji District had an estimated population of 171660 in mid-2023. This makes it a significant area within Depok.

The name “Beji” itself has historical roots. The district is divided into six urban communities. These include Beji town, Kukusan, Tanah Baru, Kemirimuka, Pondok Cina and of course Beji Timur. Each community has its unique character and contributes to the overall vibrancy of the area.

The broader area of Beji boasts several educational institutions. The University of Indonesia, Gunadarma University and Bina Sarana Informatika are all located here. This makes Beji a hub for students and academics. The presence of these universities adds a youthful energy to the district.

Beji also has essential facilities such as hospitals and places of worship. These ensure that the needs of the community are well met. In Tanah Baru Village, you can find housing areas like Arroyyan Tanah Baru, Beji Permai, Depok Mulya III and Griya Sakinah. These residential areas provide homes for many families.

Transportation is convenient in Beji. The Pondok Cina and UI stations connect the area to Jakarta’s metro rail system. The Cinere–Jagorawi Toll Road also passes through Beji. This makes it easy to travel to and from other parts of Jakarta.

Historically, Jakarta has seen many changes. In 358 AD, King Purnawarman established Sundapura as the capital. This was part of the Tarumanagara kingdom. Later, the area became part of the Sunda Kingdom. By the 14th century, Sunda Kelapa was a major trading port. In 1527, Fatahillah renamed it Jayakarta. The Dutch then took control and named it Batavia. Finally, it became Jakarta after Indonesia’s independence.

Today, Beji Timur continues to evolve. It is a blend of residential areas, educational institutions and commercial activities. The community thrives as part of the dynamic city of Depok. Next time you are in Jakarta, take a trip to Beji Timur and see for yourself.
