“Excellence in education” isn’t just a slogan here at Beaver Technology Center. It’s a mission. Founded as Beaver Elementary in 1960, this school has evolved into a hub for young minds eager to explore math, science, and technology.
Named in honor of Mrs. Edith Beaver and her husband James, the land where Beaver Technology Center now stands was once their farm. Imagine that. A peaceful farm transforming into a place buzzing with innovative ideas.
In its early days as Beaver Elementary, Luke Abbett, the school’s first principal, welcomed 279 students and 12 teachers. Those teachers were true pioneers. They juggled everything from library duty to music lessons, art projects, and lunch supervision. Each class held over 30 students.
Within five years, the student population exploded. Beaver Elementary swelled to 650 students and eventually peaked at over 800. That is a lot of children running around.
In 1997, Beaver Elementary reinvented itself. It reopened as Beaver Technology Center, a magnet school. Its focus sharpened to cater to students with a passion for math, science, and technology. These students are known as MSTs. Beaver Technology Center is one of two MSTs in the Garland Independent School District. Watson Technology Center is Beaver’s sister school.
