“In 1974, right here in Rio de Janeiro, a spark ignited, giving birth to BB Tecnologia e Serviços.” Originally called Cobra Computadores e Sistemas Brasileiros, BB Tecnologia e Serviços emerged from a desire to create truly Brazilian technology. This wasn’t just a business venture. It was a matter of national pride and security. Imagine Brazil in the 1950s, eager to join the global technological revolution. Students at the Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Aeron\u00e1utica embarked on an ambitious project, crafting “Zezinho,” Brazil’s first computer. This pioneering spirit fueled the creation of BB Tecnologia e Serviços. Initially, BB Tecnologia e Serviços partnered with the British company Ferranti. This allowed them to produce a licensed version of the Argus-700 computer. This partnership provided valuable knowledge. It empowered BB Tecnologia e Serviços to develop their own technology. BB Tecnologia e Serviços quickly became a major player in the Brazilian computer market. By the late 1970s, over half of the market consisted of nationally produced products. BB Tecnologia e Serviços fueled the growth of the entire industry. Brazil transformed from a consumer of technology to an exporter, thanks in part to the foundation laid by BB Tecnologia e Serviços. BB Tecnologia e Serviços also played a key role in the adoption of free software in Brazil. In 2005, they signed a contract with Banco do Brasil to provide specialized services in free software. This contributed to one of the largest migrations to open systems worldwide, a testament to BB Tecnologia e Serviços’ forward-thinking approach. Today, BB Tecnologia e Serviços stands as a testament to Brazilian ingenuity. It has evolved into a diversified company, offering a range of services from technical assistance to software development. From its humble beginnings in Rio de Janeiro, BB Tecnologia e Serviços continues to shape the technological landscape of Brazil.
