Interesting fact. The Bayview Police Station serves one of San Francisco’s largest areas. It extends east of Highway 101. It stretches south from Channel Street to the San Mateo County line.
The Bayview Police Station includes the residential neighborhoods of Potrero Hill. It also covers Dogpatch and Third Street. India Basin, Candlestick, Portola, Bayview, and Hunters Point are also included.
The original Bayview Station was not at this location. It was built in 1915. It served residents of Potrero Hill and Bayview. The address was on Newcomb Avenue.
But that original Bayview Police Station was decommissioned. The new Bayview Station opened its doors in February 1997. The address is 201 Williams Ave.
Voters approved a bond measure in 1987 to build it. The new building has a distinctive design. It features a round high-ceilinged lobby. An octagonal skylight tops it off.
The Bayview Police Station is part of the San Francisco Police Department’s Golden Gate Division. The Bayview Police Department provides many services.

The old Bay View Police Station was built in 1911. It was designed in the Roman Renaissance style. The cost was approximately $22,000. City architect Alfred I. Coffey designed it.
Sadly, it is not on any historical listing. It is now in private hands. This police station closed in the 1930s. It consolidated with the Potrero Hill Police Station.
Coffey also designed the North End Police Station. It too is now in private hands. Coffey was born in San Francisco in 1866. He was appointed city architect in 1910. He designed schools, police stations, and hospitals.
