Established in 1998 Bahcesehir University stands as a testament to Istanbul’s vibrant academic spirit. Its founding marked a significant moment in Turkey’s higher education landscape. BAU didn’t spring up overnight. It’s a story of vision and perseverance. The university’s first Senate meeting took place on January 1 1998. This was followed by the establishment of the Faculty of Law in 2000 and the Faculty of Architecture a year later. These early milestones laid the groundwork for BAU’s remarkable growth.

From its initial campus in Bahcesehir BAU expanded rapidly. By 2004 all university units had relocated to its prestigious Beşiktaş campus. This move marked a significant step forward both geographically and symbolically. The Beşiktaş location provided BAU with greater visibility. It also placed the university in the heart of Istanbul’s cultural hub. The decision highlighted BAU’s commitment to excellence and its ambition to become a leading institution.

Over the years BAU has fostered international collaborations. A partnership with San Diego State University was established early on. This collaboration helped shape BAU’s academic focus and global outlook. The university continued its expansion opening campuses in Berlin Cologne Hong Kong and beyond. It created a truly global network.

BAU’s progress wasn’t solely about buildings and partnerships. It involved a dedicated team. Several presidents shaped the university’s direction. Professor Dr Halil Güven served as the first president. He was followed by Professor Dr Şeyhl Batum Professor Dr Yılmaz Esmer and Professor Dr Şenay Yalçın. Each president contributed to BAU’s evolution. Their leadership guided the university toward its current prominent status.

But BAU is more than just academic achievements. It’s a place of innovation and cultural exchange. The university hosted numerous events. There was the Futurists Summit in 2008 a visit to Kyoto University the same year and the MEDAM Katip Çelebi Exhibition in 2010. These events enriched the campus community and fostered a dynamic learning atmosphere. BAU also boasts impressive facilities. Its Barbaros Library opened in 2004. The Türkan Şoray Cinema Hall opened in 2014. These spaces highlight BAU’s commitment to providing a well-rounded education. This commitment extends beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Today BAU stands proudly on the shores of the Bosphorus. It serves as a symbol of academic excellence. Its journey from a newly founded institution to a globally recognized university is an inspiring story. It’s a story of determination innovation and collaboration. A story that continues to unfold before us.
