Nestled within Tangerang City lies Batuceper. Did you know Batuceper is more than just a name? It is a district with a story etched into its very soil.

Batuceper’s tale is interwoven with the history of private land ownership. This area once formed part of a particuliere land. It was the private domain of Luitenant der Chinezen Tan Tiang Po and his son, Tan Liok Tiauw Sia. They were the Landheeren or landlords of Batoe-Tjepper.

Picture this: vast lands under the stewardship of a prominent Chinese family. They shaped the region’s destiny. Tan Liok Tiauw Sia was a pioneer. He spearheaded plantations and industries in the Dutch East Indies. His great-grandfather, Tan Leng, was a Pachter der Amfioen in Batavia.

Time moves on. Batuceper has grown into a vibrant district. It is strategically located adjacent to Jakarta. To the north, Benda District borders Batuceper. To the south, it meets Cipondoh District. The City of West Jakarta lies to the east. Tangerang and Neglasari Districts mark its western boundary.

Batuceper is divided into seven urban communities. These are known as kelurahan. Each one contributes to the district’s unique character. Batuceper town has a population of 14,280. Batujaya is home to 10,777 residents. Porisgaga boasts 18,346 inhabitants. Porisgaga Baru counts 11,038 people. Kebon Besar houses 12,303 individuals. Batusari is populated by 17,529 residents. Finally, Poris Jaya has 10,397 inhabitants.

In 2010, the census recorded Batuceper’s population at 90,590. By 2020, it had grown to 92,044. The official estimate in mid-2023 was 95,474.

Batuceper covers an area of 11.58 square kilometers. The population density is about 8,200 people per square kilometer.

The district’s administrative structure is well-defined. Each kelurahan plays a vital role in local governance. Each kelurahan also contributes to the community’s social fabric.

Batuceper continues to evolve as a key part of Tangerang City. It balances its historical roots with modern development. As you explore Batuceper, remember its past. It was shaped by landlords and pioneers. This district stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Tangerang.
