In 1884, a love story unfolded at Bastide La Roseraie. J.B. Caillol built this charming estate for Rose Boyer. The 7.5-hectare property, once a simple landscape of pines, olive groves, and a small bastidon, transformed into a grand estate. Bastide La Roseraie became a hub of cultural events, its halls echoing with music and laughter. Rose established stables on the grounds. This added to the charm and vibrancy of the estate. The idyllic setting of Bastide La Roseraie wouldn’t last forever. In 1971, the French government expropriated the property. The plan was to build a highway access route to the quarries of Sainte-Marthe. This “phantom highway” project never materialized. Bastide La Roseraie fell into disrepair. The grand estate, once a symbol of love and culture, became a shadow of its former self. But the story doesn’t end there. In 1993, a new chapter began for Bastide La Roseraie. Sylvie and Jean-Philippe Rapin established the “Écuries de la Roserie” riding center. They brought life back to the estate. Horses now grace the grounds. The sounds of hooves replaced the echoes of the past. Today, Bastide La Roseraie stands as a testament to its resilient history. The estate houses two riding arenas, a lunging ring, boxes, paddocks, and even a farrier’s services. The original bastide, with its interior decor and outbuildings, is protected as a historical monument. The farm, park, its structures, gate, and rock gardens are also preserved, whispering tales of a vibrant past.
