A baseball diamond in North London? Yes, that’s right we are at Basing Hill Park. This park offers more than meets the eye. Let’s uncover its story.

Basing Hill Park is a public park. It sits in Childs Hill in the London Borough of Barnet. Along with Childs Hill Park, it is one of Barnet’s ‘Premier Parks’. These green spaces provide a place for leisure and recreation.

Before the 1920s, this area was open fields. As housing developed in the 1920s, the need for community space grew. In 1936, Basing Hill Park was created. It was designed to serve the local population.

Today, Basing Hill Park is mainly grassed. Scattered trees dot the landscape. A multipurpose court hosts tennis and football. A basketball court provides space for shooting hoops. A baseball pitch caters to local teams. And for the little ones, a children’s playground offers fun.

Interestingly, Basing Hill Park hosts bicycle rider training. From April to November on Saturdays, young cyclists learn skills here. This shows the park’s role in community education.

Access to Basing Hill Park is easy. You can enter from Wayside and Hendon Way. The park is also home to Herts Baseball Club.

The park spans 2.61 hectares. Barnet Council owns the park. The Leisure and Youth Services manage it. Also the Green Spaces Division and the Friends of Basing Hill and Childs Hill Parks contribute.

When visiting Basing Hill Park, you will find tennis courts near the Hendon Way entrance. Close by are two small structures. There is a small area of rose beds and concrete tubs. A tarmac path runs around the park’s edge.

Basing Hill Park provides unrestricted access. You can visit any time. To get here by tube, take the Northern line to Golders Green. Then, hop on a bus. Buses 26, 113, 226, and 102 will bring you close.

Although Basing Hill Park may seem simple, it plays a vital role. It offers recreation and green space. From baseball to cycling lessons, it serves the community. Next time you seek a place to unwind, remember Basing Hill Park. It’s a testament to the value of local parks.
