The Baraka Baptist Church’s story begins not here but in Újpest. A Baptist family moved to the Széchenyi settlement in 1905. Ids Beharka Pál and Nagy Pál started church building in the area. Wick Fülöp then rented a hall. He began church life. World War I destroyed this early beginning. A new chapter opened October 10 1927. A rented prayer room in Pestújhely opened. It was called the “Bethlen Chapel”.
This modest chapel served the growing congregation. Through the years it faced challenges. The numbers of the congregation dwindled after the war. In the early 1950s the church temporarily came under the care of the Újpest congregation. It lacked its own pastor. The Baraka Baptist Church regained independence in the 1960s. It maintains its independence to this day. Since 2002 it has been officially recognized under its present name. The Baraka Baptist Church.
The current building is undergoing renovation. The new design includes additional rooms. There will be classrooms offices and improved parking. The church is a living entity. It adapts to the needs of the community. It continues to serve as a place of worship and a center for fellowship. It’s also a place for learning community support and outreach.
