Deciding to follow Jesus is a personal choice. Here at the Baptisten-Gemeinde, this choice is celebrated through baptism by complete immersion. We stand before the Baptisten-Gemeinde in Chemnitz. It is more than just a building. It is a community built on faith and fellowship.
The Baptisten-Gemeinde is an Evangelical Free Church. “Evangelical” means “good news.” This good news is central to their beliefs. It proclaims God’s love for everyone. He sent his Son to redeem humanity.
Redemption is a personal journey. Each person must recognize their failings. Each of us must ask for forgiveness. Accepting Jesus’ sacrifice and submitting to His will brings the “Good News” to life.
“Freikirchlich” signifies independence. The Baptisten-Gemeinde operates independently. It relies on donations for support. No one is born into this church. Joining requires a conscious decision to follow Jesus.
So what does “Baptistengemeinde” mean? It means that they practice baptism. The Baptisten-Gemeinde believes in biblical baptism. Only those who have turned away from their old lives and experienced forgiveness are baptized. This is done through full immersion in water. This act symbolizes a new life in Christ.
Together, the community celebrates services and communion. They seek to learn more about God. They want to encounter Him and praise Him. Small groups meet in homes. They read the Bible. They pray together. They reflect on matters of faith and life. Members support one another. They share the “Good News” with those around them. Each person is responsible for their own life before God. God offers real freedom and joy.
Markus and Leah Weber moved to Chemnitz in July 2023. They were sent by ChristCentral to plant a church. ChristCentral is a Newfrontiers sphere alongside Relational Mission.
In early 2024, they extended an invitation. It called for those with a passion for God’s mission to join a prayer weekend. The aims were twofold. They sought to hear God’s voice. They also wanted to cover the city and the church plant in prayer. It strengthened connections between their Newfrontiers family and the Chemnitz church plant family.
Penny and her husband James attended a prayer weekend. They travelled from Frankfurt. The weekend included worship and a prayer walk. They stopped at various points. They prayed for neighborhoods, councils and schools. They also prayed for universities and refugees. The prayers were in German and English. The children participated too. They joined in praying for the areas they visited.
The prayer walk concluded at Schlossteichinsel. There, they worshipped in the park. Some boaters came closer to see what was happening.
Sunday morning meant joining the church plant. Graham Pyman spoke about values. These include Word, Spirit, grace and mission. The Holy Spirit was present.
Since the summer of 2024, increasing numbers have visited the church plant. A group of around 20 now gathers regularly.
The Baptisten-Gemeinde extends a warm invitation. They invite you to discover God. Your Creator is only a prayer away. Remember Karl Gӧckeritz. He was the president of the Chemnitz District. In October 1941, he couldn’t foresee his term ending. He lost his life in the war in 1943. His story reminds us of faith. It also reveals community amid difficult times.
