Across Paseo de la Reforma, vibrant spheres catch the eye. These aren’t just any spheres. These are the Balls Sculptures of Mexico City. In 2016, sixty-four of these painted soccer ball sculptures dotted the avenue as part of the “Expo Balon.” Each ball, a concrete canvas, transformed the bustling street into an open-air art gallery. The Balls Sculptures weren’t meant to be permanent fixtures. They were a temporary exhibit, a burst of color and creativity against the backdrop of the city. Imagine strolling down Paseo de la Reforma, the sun glinting off the brightly painted Balls Sculptures. Each ball, a unique piece of art, tells a story. While the exhibition ended in June, the memory of these playful sculptures lingers, a reminder of the art that can unexpectedly bloom in the heart of a city. The Balls Sculptures may be gone, but their vibrant spirit remains, a testament to the power of public art to transform and inspire.
