High above Budapest, a red-and-white striped marvel awaits. It’s the BalloonFly, a unique attraction offering breathtaking views of the city. This isn’t just any balloon ride. It’s a journey into the heart of Budapest’s skyline and history.

The BalloonFly stands tall on Mimosa Hill. It is near the Széchenyi Baths. This location is no accident. Heinrich Nebbien, the City Park’s designer, envisioned this area as a viewing platform. The BalloonFly recalls Nebbien’s vision. It commemorates the park’s two-century-old tradition of aerial displays.

Imagine the Ballon Captif. It soared over the City Park during the Millennium Exhibition in 1896. Captain Louis Godard, a Parisian balloonist, operated it. The balloon carried 12 to 14 passengers at a time, launching dozens of times daily. The BalloonFly revives this tradition with modern safety standards.

As you approach the BalloonFly, you’ll notice its design. Its shape and colors are reminiscent of Pál Színyi Merse’s painting, “The Balloon.” This artistic touch adds to the charm of the experience. The BalloonFly has quickly become a cheerful symbol of Budapest.

Before boarding, you’ll learn about the balloon’s safety features. The BalloonFly uses the Aero30NG system. It is one of the safest gas balloon launch systems globally. The system monitors wind speed, temperature, and dome pressure. This ensures the balloon only ascends in suitable weather.

The BalloonFly is filled with helium. Helium is a natural, inert, and non-toxic gas. It poses no threat to the environment. The balloon is also equipped with lighting and signaling lights. These comply with aviation safety regulations.

Once aboard, you’ll ascend to a height of 150 meters. The ascent takes about five minutes. You’ll spend another five minutes enjoying the view. Then, you’ll descend in five minutes.

From this vantage point, a 360-degree panorama unfolds. You can see the Museum of Fine Arts. You can also spot the Museum of Ethnography’s green roof garden. The House of Music Hungary’s unique roof is also visible. A loudspeaker provides information about these landmarks in Hungarian and English.

The Liget Budapest Project brought the BalloonFly back to the City Park. This project aims to evoke the traditions of the park through modern means. The BalloonFly embodies this goal perfectly.

The BalloonFly isn’t just a ride. It’s an experience that blends history, art, and breathtaking views. It is a reminder of Budapest’s rich cultural heritage. It’s a modern take on a beloved tradition. So, take to the skies. See Budapest from a new perspective. Let the BalloonFly lift your spirits and create lasting memories.
