Balch Springs adopts a mayor-council form of government. By 1956 the population reaches approximately 3500. The population continues to grow. The city experiences significant growth particularly after the construction of new roads which makes commuting easier. It improves access to surrounding cities.

This growth isn’t without its challenges. In 1988 a vote to merge with the neighboring city of Mesquite is declared invalid. Balch Springs remains independent. The city’s population continues to rise. It reaches 17406 in 1990. The 2000 census reports 19375 residents. Balch Springs is now a vibrant community with a rich history and a diverse population. Its location near major highways like Interstate 635 Interstate 20 and US Highway 175 contributes significantly to its economic development.
