Have you ever longed to witness the “First Beauty in Guangzhou”? Baiyun Mountain, also known as White Cloud Mountain, offers precisely that. The Baiyun Dawn Lookout, perched on this magnificent mountain, unveils a breathtaking spectacle. Imagine the city of Guangzhou spread out before you, draped in the soft hues of dawn. The name “Baiyun,” meaning “White Clouds,” originates from the enchanting sight of the mountain peaks often shrouded in mist, especially during late spring or after a refreshing rain. Baiyun Mountain isn’t just a mountain; it’s a sprawling range north of Guangzhou, reaching a height of 427 meters. Its highest peak, Moxing Peak, is sometimes poetically referred to as the “First Peak under the Southern Sky.” The lookout, known as Baiyun Dawn Lookout, offers a particularly stunning vista of the city awakening. Throughout history, Baiyun Mountain has been a cherished scenic spot. Even before Guangzhou’s establishment in 214 BC, visitors journeyed here. Celebrities from the Warring States period, and notable figures from the Jin and Tang dynasties, sought its beauty. Various scenes at Baiyun Mountain have been honored as part of the Eight Sights of Ram City, a list of Guangzhou’s most beautiful spots. Sadly, few of the historical sites have survived. The Baiyun Dawn Lookout, however, continues to capture the essence of this ancient beauty. The vista from the lookout is truly remarkable, providing a unique blend of natural splendor and urban expanse. As the sun begins its ascent, casting a golden glow over the landscape, you’ll understand why Baiyun Mountain is known as the “City’s Lung,” a vital green space amidst the urban hustle. You can almost feel the city breathe.
