The Avondale Islamic Centre stands before you a testament to faith and community. It wasn’t always this way.
In 1998 the Avondale Islamic Centre opened its doors. Before it was a mosque this spot held a church. A clever land swap brought this building to the New Zealand Muslim Association. The church in Henderson was exchanged for this property and a school building. The Avondale Islamic Centre is one of five branches managed by the New Zealand Muslim Association. Other branches are in Ponsonby Ranui Birkenhead and Kelston.
The Avondale Islamic Centre is more than just a place of prayer. It’s a vibrant hub for the community. The Centre offers a wide range of services. These include event hosting facilities teaching and a multi-purpose area. There’s even ample parking for over 25 vehicles. Men and women gather here for the five daily prayers. Special prayers like the Ramadan night prayers (Taraweeh) are also held here.
