Listen closely. Did you know this peaceful haven started as a simple pigeon coop? Welcome to the Aviario Abraham Lincoln a surprising oasis in bustling Polanco.

In 1938 a humble palomar nestled within the iconic Polanco Clock Tower. This wasn’t just any pigeon house. It marked the Aviario’s unlikely beginning. The flock grew quickly. All sorts of birds joined the pigeons. By the late 1940s the Clock Tower overflowed. The birds needed more space.

So they moved. In 2006 a brand new Aviario opened in Parque Lincoln. The old clock tower now houses art. The Aviario however continues its important work. It’s a sanctuary for rescued birds. Many are parrots. These are popular with illegal traders. Some parrots show signs of anxiety. They need our respect and distance.

The Aviario Abraham Lincoln shelters roughly 240 birds. They represent 23 different species. Sparrows mockingbirds and cardinals live here. They fly freely. Remember these birds were rescued. Many suffered from neglect or trafficking.

The Aviario is a testament to Polanco’s generosity. It’s a small but vital part of the park. It reminds us of the need for kindness toward animals. It also silently whispers stories of rescue and rehabilitation. For a small fee you can visit these fascinating birds. Remember to be quiet and respectful. Observe these amazing creatures from a safe distance. Let their beauty enrich your day.
