“Lost Time.” That’s what Avenue Saint-Joseph was once called. But its story is anything but lost. In 1640, it got a new name. The name came from the Saint Joseph funeral chapel. This chapel once stood at the corner of Rue Montmartre.

Now, standing here on Avenue Saint-Joseph, consider this. On April 2, 1840, Émile Zola was born. He was born on the fourth floor of number 10. His father was Venetian. His mother was French. She came from Dourdan. That’s 44km south of Paris. He is one of the rare leftists to be honored. The plaque commemorates his first three years.

Imagine Zola as a toddler here on Avenue Saint-Joseph. It’s a scene of Parisian life. The street has changed but its spirit endures.

Avenue Saint-Joseph carries echoes of history. It whispers tales of writers and transformations. From a funeral chapel to a birthplace. It’s a place where time itself seems to pause. Take a moment. Feel the pulse of Parisian history beneath your feet. Avenue Saint-Joseph has seen so much. It continues to witness life unfold.
