“Forgotten heroes deserve remembrance” I often say. Today we find ourselves on Avenue Pierre Grenier. It is a tribute to a man of courage. This avenue in Boulogne-Billancourt bears the name of Pierre Grenier a French resistance fighter.

Avenue Pierre Grenier stretches through Boulogne-Billancourt. It links the bustling city to the serene Seine. The avenue ends at Place du Pont-de-Billancourt. This square is a meeting point of several important routes.

Once this avenue was part of a larger route. Until the 1930s it formed part of route départementale no 1. Back then it was known as Avenue des Moulineaux. It stretched all the way to the Porte de Saint-Cloud.

During World War I Avenue des Moulineaux faced the horrors of war. Enemy aircraft raided it during the bombings of Paris and its suburbs. The northern part of what was once Avenue des Moulineaux took a different path. In 1932 it became Rue Georges-Lafont. Later it was annexed to Paris. By decree it was renamed Avenue des Moulineaux. Eventually it received its current name.

Avenue Pierre Grenier is among the many roads bordering Paris. It was captured in a photographic series in 1971. The series was called 6 mètres avant Paris.

Several notable landmarks dot Avenue Pierre Grenier. The Jardin de la Porte-de-Saint-Cloud and Square Roger-Coquoin provide green spaces. They were created in 1930. The Cimetière Pierre-Grenier also lies at the intersection with Rue du Point-du-Jour.

In a dramatic turn of events Jacques Mesrine a notorious figure was apprehended on this very street. He lived at number 1.

At number 32 stands an old power plant. It was built in the early 20th century. It is recognized as part of the cultural heritage. The Résidence Salmson Le Point du Jour is another architectural highlight. Fernand Pouillon designed it in 1963.

In recent years Avenue Pierre Grenier has undergone changes. In 2012 it was decided to limit the speed to 30 km/h. The goal was to improve safety for everyone. New bike paths were added. Raised platforms were installed at strategic points. These improvements aimed to create a better balance for pedestrians cyclists and drivers.

While some welcomed these changes others expressed concerns. The narrowing of sidewalks and the removal of some trees raised questions. However the city aimed to enhance the avenue. It was planned to introduce new urban furniture and greenery.

So as we stand on Avenue Pierre Grenier let’s remember its past. Let’s appreciate its present and look forward to its future. It is a road of resilience a testament to the spirit of Paris.
