“A horseshoe in the city?” you might ask, perplexed. Well, right here before you lies Avenue du Fer à Cheval, a charming street that, as you can see, doesn’t resemble a horseshoe at all. This name, however, is a whisper from the past, a time when Avenue du Fer à Cheval was indeed shaped like a horseshoe. This was back in the late 18th century when the area was being developed. Over time, the construction of the Saint-Michel bridge and later the Garonne embankment altered its shape. But the name Avenue du Fer à Cheval stuck, a charming reminder of a bygone era.
