Initially named BUCSO for Boulevard Urbain de Clichy Saint-Ouen Avenue de la Liberté has a fascinating story. This road project in Hauts-de-Seine and Seine-Saint-Denis aims to improve access to Clichy’s city center and Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine’s Docks district. Avenue de la Liberté connects the Gennevilliers bridge to Saint-Ouen station.
Imagine a two-lane avenue. It starts at the Gennevilliers bridge. It then curves east towards Clichy. Finally it meets Boulevard Victor-Hugo near Saint-Ouen station. The avenue follows the path of the uncompleted A15 extension. This would have gone to Porte Pouchet and the Paris ring road.
Northern sections primarily in Clichy are still under construction. They are built on a large former car junkyard. This was reserved for the A15 extension. South of the avenue will use Rue Dora-Maar in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine. In 2020 this street wasn’t connected to Boulevard Victor-Hugo. This was due to ongoing Line 14 extension works.
Avenue de la Liberté’s name reflects France’s motto Liberty Equality Fraternity. The project was renamed in January 2018. Public consultation took place. The planned timeline was public inquiry in 2022. Construction and opening were slated for 2024-2026. This ambitious project promises to significantly reshape the urban landscape of Clichy and Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine. Avenue de la Liberté is more than just a road. It is a symbol of progress and improved connectivity. It embodies the spirit of freedom and progress for the future.
