Is there anything more breathtaking than the view from a tower? Here at the Aussichtsturm Brookbäke, you’ll experience just that. This twelve-meter-tall wooden tower isn’t just a pretty landmark. It offers a unique perspective on the Hasbruch forest and the Brookbäke stream that winds its way through it. The Aussichtsturm Brookbäke stands as a testament to the successful revitalization of the Brookbäke itself. Originally confined to a concrete channel, the stream was restored to its natural glory between 2006 and 2008. The Naturschutzstiftung des Landkreises Oldenburg, a local conservation group, spearheaded the project. They created meandering curves, added gravel and deadwood to the streambed, and allowed natural flooding to revitalize the surrounding meadows. From the top of the Aussichtsturm Brookbäke, you can trace the path of the revitalized Brookbäke. You can see the seven new loops it takes through the landscape, a far cry from its former artificial channel. This view is a reminder that even in the face of human intervention, nature can be restored to a thriving state.
