Gomlitz has even older roots. The first recorded settlement in the Gomlitz area dates back to the late Bronze Age. That was about 3000 years ago. Remains of a cemetery from this period were found. They were located at Alte Moritzburger Straße 55.
The village of Gomlitz was first mentioned in 1378. It was named “Kom(e)nicz”. The name may come from different origins. These include the Old Sorbian “komon” which means old horse. It could also come from “Komonica”. That means settlement where a lot of stone clover grows. Other possibilities are the Old Sorbian personal names “Koman”, “Komon”, “Choman”, or “Chomon”.
In the 15th and 16th centuries the place names Kommenicz, Konitz and Kommelitz appeared. The name Gomlitz first appeared around 1750. The village has a typical linear shape. The village center has been preserved in parts to this day. Several fieldstone and half-timbered houses and old fieldstone walls stand here. One of the oldest buildings is at Alte Moritzburger Straße 7. It dates from 1763.
Throughout its history Gomlitz belonged to the Dresden Amt or Amtshauptmannschaft. A Vorwerk was mentioned in Gomlitz in 1450. A second one was mentioned in 1547. Around 1600 the village belonged to the von Zschieren family. This included the neighboring villages of Weixdorf, Lausa and Hermsdorf. From 1696 Gomlitz was owned by the Hermsdorf manor. The village was incorporated into Lausa in 1539. Around 1900 it grew together with Weixdorf. In 1914 it merged with Weixdorf and Lausa to form the municipality of Lausa. This was renamed Weixdorf in 1938. Gomlitz became part of Dresden on January 1, 1999. This was as part of Weixdorf.
