Do you see those flags waving gently in the breeze? They mark the location of the Außenstelle der Botschaft Kuba in Bonn. This office represents Cuban interests in Germany. It plays a vital role in fostering cultural exchange.

The Außenstelle der Botschaft Kuba has a rich history here. From 1976 to 1999, this building served as the main Cuban Embassy. Before that, the Cuban Embassy moved several times within Germany. It was first located in a hotel in Bad Neuenahr. Later, it moved to Cologne.

In 1963, diplomatic relations between Cuba and West Germany were interrupted. This led to the closure of the Cuban Embassy. However, relations were re-established in 1975. Cuba then reopened its embassy in Bonn.

This very building became the embassy’s home in 1976. Interestingly, before the Cuban Embassy, the building housed German ministries. These included the Ministry for Youth, Family, and Health.

In 1999, the main embassy moved to Berlin when the German government relocated. However, this location remained important. It became the Außenstelle der Botschaft Kuba. It maintains a cultural and consular section. It is staffed by a dedicated team.

An interesting event occurred here in 1991. Ten Kurds briefly occupied the embassy grounds. They protested Cuba’s stance on a UN resolution.

Today, the Außenstelle der Botschaft Kuba handles consular affairs for several German states. This office strengthens the bond between Cuba and Germany. It keeps cultural connections alive. So, remember this building. It has witnessed history and continues to shape relations between two nations. The office is located at Kennedyallee 22-24. Feel free to visit during opening hours from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 12pm.
