In 1981, a small group of just fifteen people began meeting in a house in Auckland. They gathered at this Auckland City Central Christian Centre to study the Bible and deepen their faith. Their leader, Pastor Terry Calkin, had a vision. He dreamed of spreading the Gospel throughout the city, the country, and even to other nations. The Auckland City Central Christian Centre quickly grew. Soon, the small group outgrew the house. They began holding services in various locations around central Auckland. By the end of 1981, the congregation had swelled to over one hundred people. The need for a permanent home became clear. The leadership and the congregation felt drawn to the Greenlane motorway interchange area. In 1983, Auckland City Central Christian Centre started acquiring properties along Marewa Road. It took four years to acquire enough land. Construction began in early 1988. By September of the same year, the building was complete. Auckland City Central Christian Centre, then known as Greenlane Christian Centre, officially opened its doors. The church continued to grow and expand its ministries. They added youth programs, cell groups, and even supported missions, orphanages, and Bible schools overseas. They even established their own Bible College. Pastor Terry Calkin remained passionate about helping people connect with God. He believed in the power of faith to meet the fundamental human needs for security, self-worth, and significance. The Auckland City Central Christian Centre became a place where people could find that connection and embrace a life devoted to Jesus Christ.
