Atelier de Maintenance de Châtillon

Nestled beside the technicentre for high-speed trains at Gare Montparnasse, the Atelier de Maintenance de Châtillon is an intriguing part of the Paris Metro’s hidden world. The Atelier de Maintenance de Châtillon, opened in 1998, serves Line 13. It streamlines maintenance operations previously split between the Pleyel and Invalides workshops. This eliminated the need for the Invalides workshop altogether. The Atelier de Maintenance de Châtillon is located at the southern end of Line 13, just beyond the Châtillon – Montrouge terminus. It sits next to the bustling technicentre. This location ensures easy access for Line 13 trains needing maintenance. Inside the Atelier de Maintenance de Châtillon, you’ll find a variety of buildings dedicated to keeping the metro running smoothly. Two main halls handle the first level of maintenance for Line 13 trains. There’s a specialized hall for undercarriage inspections, another for elevated inspections using jacks, a workshop dedicated to brake shoe maintenance, administrative offices, and even a guardhouse. Furthermore, a new maintenance hall is currently under construction, showing the ongoing evolution of this important facility. The original brake shoe manufacturing that took place at the Vaugirard workshop has been moved to the Atelier de Maintenance de Châtillon. This consolidation of tasks reflects the metro’s efficient and ever-adapting approach to maintenance.
