Could a neglected urban space become a vibrant hub for community and nature? That’s precisely the transformation Association LandyKadi has brought to a once-overlooked area in St-Denis. Landykadi started in a wasteland in Aubervilliers. It then moved to 4 Rue du Landy in St-Denis in November. It is next to Angela Davis high school. This very large space was intended to become a new station for the extended Tram T8.

Association LandyKadi is making this place a space for meeting sharing and nature. Landykadi deploys many activities there. Imagine a place where you can find a treasure trove of recycled items. The association features a lovely wooden chalet. This chalet offers a recyclerie filled with books clothes and various objects.

Adding to the charm a small coop houses four hens. The chickens are stars. They served as models for the graffiti artist Xavier Ramirez. His joyful fresco adorns the chalet.

Landykadi did not forget plants. They rescued planters from the Aubervilliers wasteland. Children helped repaint them. These planters now grow aromatic plants potatoes and even a cherry tree.

During the winter a Yourte was added. This heated space creates a warm welcoming area. It is perfect for reading or chatting among neighbors.

Association LandyKadi also hosts many workshops such as the TAWASHI workshop. But what is a TAWASHI? It is a beautiful recycled woven item. It can be used as a dishcloth a sponge or a washcloth. To make a Tawashi follow these steps. First cut strips of fabric from round items like sleeves or tights. Next make a square frame of nails on a small board. Then stretch the fabric strips between opposite nails to create a grid. Weave other strips over and under. Finally crochet the strips attached to the nails by hand passing them into each other around the frame.

If you did not understand you can take a Tamashi lesson from Priscille at Association LandyKadi. Landykadi aims to foster local and international solidarity. It does this through diverse activities especially artistic and cultural ones. These activities are based on the exchange of goods and knowledge.

Landykadi embodies community engagement. It transforms urban spaces into havens of sustainability.
