Founded in 1959 the Assembleia de Deus Vitoria em Cristo stands as a beacon of faith. It began as Assembleia de Deus da Penha. Pastor Jos Pimentel de Carvalho founded it. He led the ministry for two and a half years.

In 1962 Pastor Sebastiao Ferreira Pinto took over. He led for about a year. Pastor Augusto Costa then led temporarily for three months.

At the end of 1963 Pastor Jos Santos assumed leadership. In early 1964 he organized the church’s work. His mark was pacification. God blessed his pastoral work. The Assembleia de Deus Vitoria em Cristo had seven congregations when he took over. These included Taborari and Proletaria. Morro da F and Morro do Sereno were also included. Vila da Penha, Marcilio Dias and Rua Coimbra completed the list.

A significant event during Pastor Jos Santos’ leadership was the inauguration. The temple on Rua Montevideu opened November 30 1996. After 58 years of ministry Pastor Jos Santos passed away in 2010. He lived 60 years with his wife Maria Leal. They had 11 children. He left the Assembleia de Deus Vitoria em Cristo with about 15000 members. These members were committed to God’s Kingdom. They gathered in 89 branches. These branches spread across Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. They also extended into Espirito Santo and Pernambuco.

On March 2 2010 Pastor Silas Lima Malafaia unanimously took leadership. The church ministry indicated him. He assumed leadership of Assembleia de Deus na Penha. It is now known as Assembleia de Deus Vitoria em Cristo.

Since then the ministry of ADVEC has expanded. This expansion is due to the generosity of its members. They know where they sow. Today over 200000 members continue to write the church’s history.

In 2014 the new headquarters of the Assembleia de Deus Vitoria em Cristo opened. It can hold 6000 people. The church spent about R 30 million on construction. The project took over two years to complete. Eight thousand people attended the inauguration.

The Assembleia de Deus Vitoria em Cristo organizes the Marcha para Jesus. This event happens in Rio de Janeiro. Singers preachers and political leaders participate. They come from various denominational groups. About 600000 people attend annually.

The leadership supports political involvement. They promote Christian values and ideas. In 2014 the church officially supported candidates for deputy. Six of the eight candidates they endorsed won elections.
