It began in the home of Pastor Sebastião Macedo, affectionately known as Pastor Tatão. Initially, it was a small congregation linked to the Assembleia de Deus in Bangu. Later, it became part of the Assembleia de Deus of Bento Ribeiro, under Pastor Horácio da Silva Jr. Finally, it became a congregation of the Assembleia de Deus in São Cristóvão, led by Pastor Túlio Barros Ferreira. The Assembleia de Deus em Augusto Vasconcelos thrived under its first president, Pastor Jônatas Câmara. He is known for his television programs on Rede Boas-Novas and his work with the IEADAM (Igreja Evangélica Assembleia de Deus no Amazonas). After Pastor Jônatas, Pastor Paulo Roberto Ferreira led the church. Today, Pastor Celso de Castro Costa serves as president. The church celebrated its 50th anniversary with a week of festivities. The theme was “Na perfeita unidade, manifesta-se a glória de Deus” (“In perfect unity, the glory of God is manifested”). The Assembleia de Deus em Augusto Vasconcelos has grown significantly. It now boasts 28 congregations and approximately 3,500 members. The main church and its congregations have experienced remarkable material growth.
