“A village named Ash?”
You might think it’s an odd name for a village. But here in England, it’s more common than you might think. Ash is a small village in Surrey. The name tells its own story. It comes from the Old English word “æsc”, meaning “ash tree”.
Centuries ago, this area was likely covered in ash woodlands. The trees would have been a defining feature of the landscape. Even today, remnants of those ancient woods might still exist. The village is a tranquil place now. It is a far cry from its wooded past.
